Jerry Lee Lewis
Rare & Obscure Records In My Collection
Advanced Promotional issue from Dec' 1956 . The stamped red circle, which indicates it is a promotional record, was also done at SUN studios in Memphis Tenn. by Sam Phillips himself, or in some cases, by one of his crew. Notice the different position of the catalouge nr.
UK sample issue of "High Heel Sneakers" from 1964. The song, which was taken from the new album " The Greatest Live Show On Earth", was edited and shortened for the single release.
Another UK sample issue. "Baby Hold Me Close" from 1965. Quite a tough one to find.
UK 1-sided Demo / testpress issue of "High School Confidential" from 1958. Note the stamped catalouge nr which was to be used on the official release. This kind of 1-sided Demo records are extremely tough to find as London Records only used to press a small number of each issue to send out to DJ's and radio stations for airplay. Could be as little as 50 - 100 copies.
From Australia, 1964, comes this rare issue of "High Heel Sneakers". Nice Australian Philips label. Not easy to find nowadays.
US promotional issue of "Break-Up" from 1958. Here with the stamped "D.J COPY" in black, which was done by Sam Phillips , or one of his crew before the record left SUN studios. Note the original brown paper bag from SUN studios.
Rare issue of "Great Balls Of Fire" from The Philippines, 1957. Not many copies of this one left out there, as this is the only one I've come across.
From 1965 comes this quite rare Swedish issue of "Rocking Pneumonia". Generally, a real tough record to find in good condition due to the small amount of copies that usually are pressed in Sweden.
2 more 1-sided Demos from the UK. "Let's Talk About Us" from 1959 and "Break-Up" from 1958. Note the wrong spelling of "Break-Up" - Brake-Up . None of these 2 records have the new, correct catalouge nr stamped on the label, which probably indicates that these come from the very early batch.
Original US release of "High School Confidential" from 1958. This one is also the very rare Sample copy with the word "SAMPLE" stamped on the label by Sam Phillips at SUN studios. These Sample copies were only sent out to certain DJ's, radio stations and record stores for airplay. But as Sam Phillips never was much into promoting his artist by sending out free records due to the cost, there are probably not many of these Sample copies left in existance.
Rare US Promotional / Radio Station issue of the classic "I'm On Fire" on SMASH records from february 1964. A very rare and hard to find record with Jerry in any condition. This copy is beautiful with shiny clean labels and almost untouched vinyl.
Another real tough item to come across. "She Was My Baby" / "The Hole He Said He'd Dig For me" from Holland, 1965. An suspicios atempt to make a double A sider with a great picture of Jerry on the cover, taken from his Live appearence at " The Star Club, Hamburg" , 1964. This is a beautiful copy in a gorgeous condition. Note also the rare red color Philips lables.
US Promotional issue of "In The Mood". An instrumental and very unusual record for Jerry from 1960, where Sam and Jerry tried to figure out if the public bought his records for his name or for his talent. Released only on Sam Phillips other record company, Phillips. The more common stock copy appears now and then but this rarer Promotional copy doesn't surface so often.

High Heel Sneakers from Holland, 1964 is another of those hard to find items. Again with the same picture on the frontcover from Star Club as depicted in "She was my baby..." , and also with the beautiful red philips label.
Now this is a nice item indeed !  " Pee Wee's Place / Before the night is over " . Both  of the songs taken from Jerry's last album for Mercury "Keeps Rockin". Releasd only in France as a Jukebox Promo 1978, and most likely issued in very low numbers.
Another one from the SUN studio in Memphis. " Lovin' up a storm / Big blond baby " from 1959 , here as the very hard to find DJ COPY, as stamped on the label .

Jerry Lee's debut release on SUN records in Memphis from dec 1956. "Crazy arms", backed with his own composition "End of the road", here in the seldom seen Promotional issue with the red inked SAMPLE stamp, done by Sam Phillips at SUN studios.
US Promotional / Radio Station copy of "Rocking Pneumonia" from 1965, where "This Must be The Place" has been made the play side with the black DJ cross. Again , an item you don't see every day.
A great and very odd EP release from Australia, 1970, with 4 early SUN recordings. Beautiful sleeve with laminated front.  This copy also has the small Australian "SAMPLE COPY" sticker.
Original UK release of "I'm on fire" from 1964. The very unusual and rare thing with this item is the solid centre. Philips Records in the UK used the push out centre for all their releases, but this one seems to slipped through the net.
Again, the single "I'm on fire", here on a different Mercury label from Canada, manufactured by Quality records . Very seldom seen issue.
A great item, and by no doubt one the most rare of Jerry's "I'm on fire" releases. From South Africa, 1964, on the Philips label.
"Baby hold me close" from Brazil, 1965 must be considered, extremely rare. Fantastic picture of Jerry in action, on a thick cardboard sleeve, and the record itself spins on 33 1/3. In 25 years time I've only seen one copy. This one.
Jerry's all time classic "Whole lot of shakin' going on" . Released the 15th of March 1957 on SUN records and a legend was born overnight. A sample stamped SUN issue of this historical record have only been available for the public once, as far as I know. This is the one. And that's not all -  this vinyl is almost in Mint condition.
From the beginning of 1973 is this very unusual release of "What'd I say", taken from his 73' album "The Session". Issued ONLY in Sweden, without any picture sleeve, but with a totally unique flipside in "Big boss man", which should be the only time this song's been pressed on a 45 rpm single. Surely not pressed in any large quantities and very rarely seen up for sale.
"Invitation to your party", from 1969. New Zealand pressing on Festival records, can be quite tough to find.
Great Swedish release of "Me and Bobby Mcgee" from 1972. Issued in Sweden with this strangely unique sleeve with Jerry playing the guitar !?? Nice one ...
